01/21/25 BLOG POST: The Sock Saga: A Lesson Every Pet Owner Should Hear
Last Wednesday, Hank, my lovable (but mischievous) Standard Poodle, ate a sock. —an ankle sock. At first, we thought we were in the clear when he puked it up early Thursday morning, but things took a terrifying turn. He started feeling worse, puking more and more. By Thursday night, it was full-on chaos. Hank was in excruciating stomach pain, and he couldn’t keep anything down—not even water.
From Thursday day until Saturday, neither of us got more than 4 hours of sleep. Watching him suffer was heartbreaking and exhausting. By Friday, it was clear we couldn’t wait any longer, so off to the vet we went.
The vet sprang into action: X-rays, IV fluids, nausea meds, blood work, and laxatives. It was an all-out battle to avoid surgery. The sock was in his small intestines. Saturday came, and things still hadn’t improved, so we were back at the vet for more treatment. -the sock was naw in the large intestines. Surgery was looming for Monday, and my stress was sky-high. I was so worried about him having the surgery and all the pain and recovery he would have to go through.
But then, a miracle happened. On Sunday, Hank FINALLY passed the sock—in one piece, no less! Relief doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt. Hank is now back to his regular diet, his happy self again, and we’ve both recovered from the nightmare.
Here’s the hard truth: If you have a dog with a habit of eating things they shouldn’t—whether it’s socks, tissues, or anything else—you need to be prepared. Eventually, something won’t pass, and when that happens, it will cost you dearly. The vet bills for Hank’s ordeal totaled upwards of $900, and if surgery had been necessary, it would’ve been well over $2,000.
The moral of this story? Keep your dog safe from their own bad habits. A moment of prevention could save you heartache, sleepless nights, and a very steep bill.
01/01/25 Blog Post: Reflecting on the Past and Looking Ahead
As the new year begins, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey photography has taken me on this past year and eagerly anticipating the opportunities and creative ventures awaiting in 2025. Here’s a look back at my proudest moments, lessons learned, and exciting plans for the year ahead.
One of my proudest achievements this past year was shooting images for Amazon stores, a project that allowed me to cast local models from my small rural hometown. It was rewarding to give these talented individuals a platform to shine while showcasing the beauty of our community.
2024 also reinforced two valuable lessons for me as a photographer:
Quality over quantity: Focusing on delivering fewer, but more impactful images has enhanced both my clients’ experiences and my own creative satisfaction.
The importance of rest: This year taught me the value of stepping back to revive, relax, and rest. Creativity thrives when we take care of ourselves, and I’m carrying this lesson into 2025.
Goals for 2025: Bigger, Better, and More Personal
This year, I’m aiming to elevate the photography experience I offer my clients by building custom sets at my outdoor studio. These unique, themed backdrops will provide one-of-a-kind environments for capturing timeless memories.
I’m also diving into more lifestyle photography sessions, especially for children. I believe candid, natural moments create the most heartfelt images, and lifestyle sessions allow kids to feel at ease without the pressure of posing.
To connect more deeply with my audience, I’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes videos on social media. These will offer a glimpse into my creative process and help me engage with you all on a more personal level.
Additionally, I’m introducing new services in 2025, including extended family sessions and party sessions for both adults and children. These will be perfect for capturing milestones, celebrations, and cherished family moments.
Exciting Photoshoots and Collaborations
The new year brings a slate of exciting themed shoots and travel opportunities! Here’s a sneak peek:
Coffee Shop Sweetheart Minis: Starting the year with cozy, romantic mini sessions at a local coffee shop.
New York Adventures: Returning to iconic spots like Times Square and Central Park for more creative shoots.
Beach Vibes: Collaborating with Elle Bee to photograph her collection on the beaches of Florida this spring.
Each of these projects brings a unique challenge and a chance to push my creative boundaries.
